You may be eligible for a partial refund on your passport or other travel document application if the processing time for your application was outside our service standards. The processing time for your application starts when we have your application form, all your supporting documents and fees. The processing time doesn’t include the additional review time required for complex applications, the holds we place on the application while we collect additional information from you or the mailing time.
If you’re eligible, we’ll automatically send you a refund using the payment method you used when you applied. For example, if you paid with your credit card, we’ll refund your credit card. In some cases, we may send you a cheque or an electronic bank transfer.
You should receive your refund no later than July 1 of the following fiscal year (April 1 to March 31). If you haven’t received your refund by that date, you can contact us.
The amount of your refund is based on how long it took for your application to be processed.
